Advanced Materials for Automotive Electronics & E-Mobility

The automotive industry is being reshaped by electric vehicles (EVs), smart cabin technologies, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and sustainability requirements. Each of these trends places new demands on the materials inside the vehicle: power modules must dissipate more heat, interiors must integrate touch, lighting, and sensing into curved surfaces, and every component must survive years of thermal cycling, vibration, and environmental stress.

Dycotec Materials develops and manufactures printable and dispensable advanced materials that address these demands, including die attach pastes, thermal interface materials, conductive silver and carbon inks, In-Mold Electronics (IME) materials, conductive and structural adhesives, encapsulants, and EMC shielding inks. Our materials are used across powertrain, sensing, smart surface, heater, antenna, and smart glass applications.

What Automotive Materials Challenges Do Dycotec Materials Solve?

Modern vehicle manufacturing presents four interconnected materials challenges that Dycotec's portfolio directly addresses:

1. Power electronics reliability and thermal management

EV inverters, drivetrains, and battery systems operate at high power densities where heat and thermal cycling fatigue limit lifetime. Dycotec provides die attach materials, underfills, encapsulants, and thermal interface materials that underpin power module inverter systems.

2. Smart surfaces and cabin electronics

Interiors increasingly integrate capacitive touch, lighting, and switching into 3D surfaces. Dycotec's conductive silver, carbon, and dielectric materials produce electronic circuitry on flexible PET substrates, while our In-Mold Electronics range creates 3D electronic circuits on polycarbonate substrates. Learn how the process works on our In-Mold Electronics application page.

3. Sensing, connectivity and EMC protection

ADAS, autonomous driving sensors, antennas, and infotainment systems demand reliable circuitry and electromagnetic compatibility. Dycotec's conductive materials support capacitive sensors and high-efficiency antennas, and our silver inks form high-density metal films for EMC shielding once thermally processed.

4. Durable bonding and protection in high-stress environments

Interior and exterior components must maintain secure bonding and protection under extreme conditions. Dycotec's conductive adhesives, structural adhesives, and coatings are designed to withstand the thermal, mechanical, and environmental stresses of automotive service life.

Dycotec's Automotive Material Technologies Explained

Die Attach & Power Module Materials

For powertrain applications, Dycotec provides sintered die attach materials, underfills, encapsulants, and thermal interface materials that underpin power module inverter systems. These materials deliver the electrical, thermal, and mechanical reliability that EV power electronics require through repeated thermal cycling.

Thermal Interface Materials

Dycotec supplies three categories of thermal interface material for automotive heat management: non-silicone gels and putties for reworkable, conformable contact; phase change materials that transition to low viscosity at operating temperature for intimate surface contact; and thermally conductive epoxy adhesives for permanent structural bonding. Together they support heat dissipation in EV batteries, drivetrains, and power electronics.

Smart Surfaces & In-Mold Electronics

Dycotec's conductive silvercarbon, and dielectric materials are used to produce electronic circuitry on flexible PET substrates for smart surface applications. Our broad range of In-Mold Electronics (IME) products creates 3D electronic circuits on polycarbonate substrates, integrating capacitive touch, switching, and lighting directly into molded interior components.

Printed Sensors & Antennas

Capacitive and other sensor types can be readily produced using Dycotec's range of conductive and transparent conductive materials, supporting ADAS, occupancy detection, and cabin interfaces. For antennas, our conductive pastes offer excellent conductivity, ensuring antenna efficiencies are maximised for vehicle connectivity systems. Related sensing applications are covered on our IoT Sensors page.

EMC Shielding Inks

Dycotec's range of silver inks has proven performance in EMC shielding applications: once thermally processed, they form high-density metal films that shield sensitive automotive electronics from electromagnetic interference. This protects ADAS, infotainment, and power electronics as in-vehicle device frequencies and densities increase.

Printed Heaters

Dycotec provides a range of thermoplastic and thermoset materials for heater manufacture, alongside thick film paste systems for heaters fired onto stainless steel. Printed heaters support applications such as cabin comfort surfaces and headlamp de-icing, where thin, conformable heating elements replace bulkier conventional assemblies.

Smart Glass

Smart glass is used in PDLC/SPD sunroof construction, side and rear windows, and head-up displays to control sunlight intensity and improve passenger comfort. Dycotec's conductive pastes are used to form the bus bar structures and electrical interconnects to the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) in smart window construction, with low-temperature curing and durability qualified to automotive standards.

Conductive Adhesives & Coatings

Dycotec's adhesives and coatings are specifically designed to withstand extreme conditions, ensuring secure bonding and protection for components in high-stress environments. Whether for interior or exterior parts, these materials are developed to maintain performance and durability over the vehicle's service life.
